[ There's a click as Jean-Paul's communicator comes on and his Québécois accent is apparent even as he clears his throat to begin speaking and curses softly to himself in French. ]

It appears I've got my job back. Though I guess it's not really getting it back so much as it's acquiring it for the first time - there's an incredible amount of ( Read more... )

[Tali, armed with aloe vera gel and sunscreen for the future, has been using her downtime to pay attention to her communicator.]

You should count yourself lucky that you've got the patience to teach. I don't think it's something I would be much good at.

[She has the patience to tinker with engines for days, but she had a much smaller tolerance for trying to explain to others how to tinker with them.]

I often find it's interesting that I have that patience.

Why is it that you think you don't?

Experience, for the most part. I've never been much good at explanations.

[Or articulations, for that matter. Ask her to calibrate an engine to be FTL capable? Sure. Tell someone how she felt about them? Blank stare.]

Hmm. Well, I'm sure the difficulty of the explanation is relative to the subject matter.

What is your specialty?

[ Jean-Paul looks considering for only a moment. ] Because I am good at it, frankly.

Et aussi, because originally I'd agreed to do so as a service to a smart man.

C'est français.

It is French.

You don't like teaching?

[ Ironically enough, Jean-Paul would have been eager to explain his accent but also would then suddenly become incredibly boring and never stop talking about Québec. ]

It isn't that I do not like it. I suppose I'm only getting used to it.

Though there's a particular student I'm not exactly looking forward to.

Why did you decide to go into that profession then?

Hmm. [ There's a pause as he considers his explanation. ] C'est difficile.

A rather powerful man asked me to. I refused his offer initially, though-my mind was changed. I am adjusting. [ and by that he means adjusting his bitchy attitude so he can better perform his job. hopefully. ]

The last thing I would return to is teaching. Not en masse, at least. Ingrate children with ingrate parents, students that don't want to take a subject but must because it's basic levels are mandatory learning...

Never again.

I was, within my own world. I would not pursue it again here.

And why's that?

I should know, if this is a warning of sorts.

You will be colleagues with Charles, it seems. It is fortunate that you have found something to do with your time here, at least.

[ Jean-Paul smiles at that and nods knowingly. ]

Young Charles Xavier. It'll be an interesting undertaking, that's certain.

What about yourself? Have you found a profession?

Yes, I can see how that will take some getting used to.

Unfortunately, no. My previous work experience involved a somewhat... specialized skill-set. I have yet to encounter any opportunities in the City that are similar.
