[He just stares at the screen a little disbelieving.

So guess there's a portal in the men's bathroom at work. If only I knew that sooner. Right. I'm new. Name's Ryan. Just sort of point me in the direction of the nearest bar.

[And then his watch decides to stick to his face. What the hell. Powers. He doesn't look amused.]

[ Charles looks interested by this situation with the watch, and his eyebrow is surely raised as he speaks. ]

Welcome to the City, Ryan. I'm sure you'll find it is an... interesting place, as it seems you might've already.

Interesting isn't the word I'd use.

[ Charles is trying not to chuckle, and he takes a deep breath and rights himself. Then he seems appropriately apologetic, as it becomes clear that this man doesn't exactly have control over what is happening to him. ]

The Porter works in mysterious ways, my friend.

Though there are plenty of things one can learn here that are -- ah, better than they seems. Optimism does work wonders.

Certainly if you are not optimistic, it will seem to you that things more often go badly?

[ Charles only seems more confused. Then he smiles pleasantly. ]

From what I have seen of Pennsylvania, it is lovely. Hardly a reason to be upset. There must be more.

You've probably never been to Scranton. I mean the only reason people come there is like because our show or I don't know... coal.

Well, I am not exactly from Manhattan. Upstate New York, to be honest. Quite 'boring', as I'm afraid I've been informed. [ He chuckles and shakes his head. ]

Boring is better than lifeless old people and a go no where town that's continually twenty years behind the rest of the country.

'Lifeless old people'? [ CURIOUS TERMINOLOGY. He just chuckles and shakes his head again. It reminds him of talking with his students, only serving to make him feel like one of those old people. ]

Scranton's like a hot spot for the elderly. People that have lived there and are doomed to die there. It's really sad, actually.
