3rd piece ♔ video

[ Charles is obviously a bit drunk as his comm clicks on and he's facing the video screen, his cheeks flushed and his eyes lidded -- with a grin on his face like a wild cat. He's smirking, and very clearly thinks he's quite the charmer. He opens his mouth to speak and his words are slurred, if only slightly. This is what he gets for going to the ( Read more... )

I think you may also have some sobering up to do, Professor.

[ He frowned at that at first, though he could certainly agree with it. ]

I--

Well.

Well, yes, I-I guess. Oh! But your mutation is quite fascinating...

Thank you. I think so too.

But it's not without it's downside, of course.

[ He blinked at that and frowned very deeply, not wanting to say he hadn't noticed.. though it was the truth.. ]

Oh--

God.

Well, in my alternative universe future....

[Andromeda looks -- more than a little dishevelled, considering, and quite tired.]

Oh, Charles. Really?

[ Charles blinks at the tone, not realising. Not just yet. ]

Oh--Oh. Ah, what..?

It's a mess outside. Just listen.

Are you somewhere safe, at least?

[Andromeda frowns and lets her attention flicker off the screen for a moment. In fact, she ignores the communicator for a solid minute straight while she murmurs soft spells and brushes her hand over a face that's not visible on the screen.]

[ He frowns most deeply at that and sighs softly, before frowning up at her. ]

I am--somewhere safe, yes. [ He blinks at her movements and tilts his head. ] What--ah, what was that?

[On the upside for Charles, Pietro is angry enough to practically be vibrating. It's kind of interesting to watch. On the downside, if Pietro looks like his father when he isn't angry, well uhh. Let's just say the resemblance almost doubles when he is.]

This is how you've decided to spend your evening? I realize, of course, that if you still maintain the delusion that my father is a reasonable man, you are younger and significantly less competent. However, but this point in your life, your mutation should have progressed to the point of being able to contain full city blocks with a mere thought.

You continue to be an impressive disappointment, Professor.

[ Charles raises a hand in his defense toward the camera -- making sure the gesture doesn't look like a dismissive wave, but more of a 'hold on'. He still seems drunk, certainly, but his composure is much more straight-backed now and his smile is not a sloppy, drunken one. Not anymore, as much. Hmm. He opens his mouth to speak, pauses, and then begins when he's certain he's found the appropriate words.] I am sorry.

I do assure you, there is method to my madness yet. This is certainly not without its purpose.

Ah--do you really believe that I could control such a mass of minds? I had not thought to try.

You are the most powerful and dangerous telepath with whom I am familiar. You once banished half of the Earth's most powerful humans to an alternate dimension with a mere though. My ex-wife and sister were among them.

Yes, I believe you could control a mass of homo sapien minds.

[ Charles tried not to make any sort of deal of how flattered he was to hear this information. If not because he was legitimately surprised, but because it gave him an awful lot of thinking to do about the true honing of his skills. He's just pursing his lips before he does eventually speak again. ]

I have a lot of work to do on my skills, it would seem.

What's your field of study? [ He's taking a momentary break from the chaos at the clinic and he could.. use a distraction. ]

[ Charles smiles momentarily at that, glad for a rather innocent interaction by this point. ]

Genetics. More accurately, the genetics behind human mutation.

[ Peter might.. almost smile back at Charles' response. But in all truth, it's more sad than anything. ]

Yeah? I used to know a guy in the same field.

[ Charles catches that sadness and it makes him frown momentarily. He resists reading his companion's mind for now -- something he's been acing pretty well since he's arrived in the City, but it still takes a bit of judgment and will power to give people their privacy.

At his words, however, he seems genuinely eager. ]

Did you really? They are not.. here, are they?
