[There's a soft clicking sound to be heard before the clearing of a throat. Then, a gentle tapping before a momentarily silence and a breath is taken.]

Hello? Hello? I suppose I'm talking to myself. Ah, yes, well, anyway. I think I've got this bit figured out... haven't ever seen a device quite like this myself; though there is always a first time ( Read more... )

[Hank is just kind of going to be adjusting his tie here, goodness he can't let himself look sloppy!]

So...you're Charles Xavier.

Yes; yes, I am. [He sounds intrigued, but indignant.]

Hank, is that you?

You recognize me? Raven hadn't at first.

I suppose you're further along, then, and my counterpart must go through a similar transformation to my own...

I would say there were not very many people I knew who were quite as... well, blue; but I am meeting more and more in this unusual place. [He laughs just a bit before speaking again.]

Further along?

She was particularly surprised to hear about my fur.

There are a number of complicated time mechanics to this place, you see. If you knew my counterpart to be blue, yet she didn't, then it's safe to assume that she was pulled from an earlier point on the timeline.

Yes--ah, we've discussed it now. It's eerie, really.

I think at this point I just feel... as if I have learned entirely too much.

It's a common reaction, really. Especially with those further along in your timeline...or from complete alternates.

Alternates? That is... a possibility? [ He seems to be thinking a moment before he speaks again. ]

I believe that would explain quite a bit about what I'm hearing about my closest friends.

Quite beyond mere possibility at this point, actually. It's crossed over into certainty, given the dissonance between what you've told me about myself and what I know of my own history.

That is thoroughly fascinating. I'm sure it can be dangerous in cases; especially here, it would seem.

Depending on what we knew of the counterpart, yes.

[ Charles hesitates once more and seems honestly worried about what he is about to ask. ] Could I ask you then, to tell me? About Erik? Erik Lehnsherr.

The one... the one that you know.

That one is rather complicated. When you first brought us together as X-Men, he was the major threat you had it in mind for us to stop.

His philosophy that mutants should have to earn respect had some merit, but I've always been a little uncomfortable with encouraging their fear. I'd quite prefer it if they put a cease to that nonsense.

In short, he's a mutant reactionary, more often a terrorist, but he wavers on that from time to time. When last I left them, he was one of the X-Men. Due to the history many of us have with him, there are many who regard that as a bad move.

[ Considering the real gravity of everything that he is hearing, Charles finds himself in a very painful spot -- trying to imagine this world; what it must be like, and how similar it could be to his own. He isn't too daft to realise the possibility that his own timeline could divert in such a way as to create truths from everyone else's, though he still certainly doesn't want to believe it. ]

It is difficult for me to imagine Erik in such a way. Not because he is my friend, and not even because I do not believe he could hold such views or even become such a threat -- perhaps because I have seen what he is capable of, and do -- did? -- believe that I could affect the outcome of our friendship; the outcome of his life. Perhaps that was foolish of me. Even narcissistic ( ... )

Mm.

I can't say to know the full story between the two of you in my world, I only know what I've had a chance to observe. That said, there are others who will have a much greater ire of the subject, I'm sure you'll find.

One thing I can certainly say is that Erik Lensherr has a bad habit of hurting those close to him deeply.
