When he pulls back his hand and notices it's on, he finally stops fighting with it and just stares. When he finally speaks, it's in a British-but-not- ( Read more... )

I do not understand this city very well. It is very modern. I do not think I have heard of speaking through hairbrushes yet. Is that something else in which they have put small radios?

This is what you call modern? Where are the stone walls and catapults? I can't believe I'm actually calling Vigil's Keep modern...

Rule of thumb is I want to know what it is before I put it in anything. What is a radio?

I believe catapults have been outdated for some time. I have been told that guns are the standard weapon of this year. [A pause.] Vile things!

A radio is--[Hmm. Actually, she's not very clear on that either. Radios were not exactly things very many creatures had, in her time. She settles for:] A radio is a machine which allows one to hear messages from very far away. Does that help you?

Guns. [Adds to the list of many other words he does not understand, but sound ominous.]

I suppose that works better than the good ol' messenger boy.

It does. A radio is much faster, and plays many things. I have heard it play the news, music, and an important debate. Listening to a radio is very useful, but you must do other things as well! It is not healthy to listen to a radio indoors all day.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you.

So, what I have in my hands is a radio?

You are welcome.

It is near enough. These boxes can do a little more, but I do not fully understand them yet.

Aw, wonderful. A native does not understand her own technology. I see this is going to be a most telling stay.

[Mother is mildly offended.]

I am not a native. I was not even a human.

I do know how to be polite. You could stand a lesson on that.

My dear apologies than, Sirrah. What is it then? Elf? Dwarf? ...Antivan?

[That's better.]

Squirrel, if you please.

Squirrel.

I suppose I've seen stranger things.

mindyourhealth June 24 2011, 03:13:45 UTC
Indeed.

You will see many more of them. I do not doubt that.

More squirrels or more stranger things? I think I'll stick to squirrels. They're fluffy and cute--er, sorry.

Stranger things. I do appear to be the only squirrel.

You do not need to apologize, young man. I was fluffy.

How does it feel to lose all that...fluff? I know if I were once a mostly-harmless fluffy adorable creature, I'd feel absolutely naked.
