[The camera clicks on to a screen half-covered by a couple fingers, and the faint click-click of some of the buttons on the phone being fiddled with. Raven can be seen, looking up at the ceiling as she listens to the porters 'Welcome to the City' greeting and toying with the phone it had told her to pick up. She's in 'blonde' mode, dressed in a ( Read more... )

[Raven...who does he know named Raven? Wait, there's Mystique, but why would she be looking for the professor or Magneto?]

Er...well, neither of those individuals are present in this reality, but as others have mentioned we do house an Xavier Institute. I was actually acquainted with both men in my home reality.

[He glances down at himself, a little embarrassed over this human form.]

Oh, well, pardon the appearance. Merely a temporary setback, I assure you. I'm Dr. McCoy.

Hmm, only the feet? Curious.

Wait...fix?

Well, as far as I ever saw, anyway. You hid them in special shoes.

Yeah. Last night you said you found a way to remove the physical aspects of mutation without effecting our abilities. But I...decided not to.

I can, to some degree, understand the thought process that may lead to such an idea, but...

Well, it's a little embarrassing to hear I would actually consider putting it into practice, especially if I was trying to convince another that it was a desirable course of action. Too many internalized issues, I suppose. You did say I was young, foolish isn't so large a stretch...

But if it were more than the feet, I'm certain you'd have noticed. My initial mutation involved enlarged hands as well. [He held one up as if to make a point, but oh wait this is a tiny hand. Tiny and five fingered and pink.] Well, normally. I'm experiencing a temporary loss at the moment, but they should return before too long.

[She shifted a bit. She wasn't entirely sure she wanted to talk about this, really, even if it was with Hank. A Hank. Not the right Hank.]

If it was his hands they didn't look different, so I don't know. but...

[She's a bit thrown at that admission, and just sort of stares at the screen.]

You...lost your powers?

A friend's ability is to borrow or negate the abilities of others. I lent her mine for a particular purpose, but, honestly, am a little anxious for their return at this point!

[Raven might have wanted to not be blue anymore, but she'd never give up her abilities. She couldn't even imagine it.]

...Will it wear off or does she have to give them back?

It should wear off eventually, but I'm not entirely certain how long that will take. But believe me, you'll know when it happens! Certainly no use hiding for me.

Really? I mean, you hide your feet pretty well, I imagine you could invent gloves that did the same.

Well, yes, I could perhaps. But as I said, the enlarged extremities were only the initial mutation. It's developed since then.

Though I have used disguises in the past. I even developed a holographic projector to give the illusion of my former appearance! But eventually all the hiding felt too much like, well, hiding. If I were ever to come to terms with myself, I'd have to be honest with myself.

No more masks. I don't even bother with the secret identity, like so many others in this hero business. For someone who looks like I normally do, there's little point.

[Raven looks a bit more puzzled now. And a tad suspicious.]

What happened? What was the rest of your mutation?

Oh, it was a botched experiment with a hormonal extract designed to understand the key to genetic mutation! I didn't really plan on it being ingested by a mutant when I synthesized it, but circumstances have a habit of getting away from us at times.

Put simply, it enhanced my existing physical abilities while also covering me in blue fur. It was only years later that it progressed to the point where I developed into the much bulkier feline form I typically enjoy these days.

[While she could pick out the technical words and understand what they meant from spending so many years around Charles, linking them together just made her want to yawn. Still, one word jumped out at her rather obviously.]

You're usually blue?

Quite a shade of blue, in fact. One moment, there should be examples on this very network!
