If you won, then why do you feel like nothing's been resolved?

Did the "threat" get away? If that's the case, then it's not a real victory at all.

[Beatrice frowns a moment. A new face, a young girl at that---and clearly someone who shouldn't be involved in any of this. So, she's going to be vague, and look unreadable, taking a moment to smoke from her pipe.]

It's the people he has left behind and harmed who are still suffering. So, yes, you are right, dear girl. No one has won.

If he's gone [ she avoids the word 'dead' ] then you've won. He can't hurt anybody else, and that's what's most important.

If only it were that simple...but you are right, in a way. But what about the people he has already hurt? The people who may have cared about him? What are they to do, now?

Furthermore, there's a chance he may return, and his return may bring with it new troubles, perhaps worse troubles.

There are never any easy answers, following a loss of life---that much, is true. All we can do in the end, is rebuild. Pick up the pieces and find a new path. Such is the eternal cycle that is life and death.
