So, I've been reading recently on this human movement called Transhumanism. The basic idea behind it seems to be that humans should use science and technology to improve themselves and their condition, and it's being treated as this big new thing, this radical new idea, and half of you people are vehemently against it ( Read more... )

Exactly what kind of favor are we talking about?

A... small one.

I'm working on a project. A relatively large project, one with quite a bit of potential. The problem is... some of the materials I will need for it are quite illegal, and at least questionable. Things like uranium. Things that are quite dangerous.

I assure you, I have no hostile intentions and what I'm developing is... I'm trying to change, Sentinel. To do something right.

But to do this, it would be very nice if the police weren't doing anything pesky like investigating me.

Don't give us reason to, and we won't.

But that's just it. As I said, many of the materials are quite illegal by human standards. I can't obtain them legally, and believe me, I've tried. It's a matter of cultural differences, don't you see? A problem of... you know, them just not seeing.

I need to synthesize certain qualities of energon, Sentinel. Among the things I'm going to use it for are keeping these bodies of ours running. Need I remind you that I'm the only source of that substance? While I could keep draining the power grid, I think you'd rather I not waste your city's tax dollars.

Well read the fragging Wikipedia article, I linked it right there!

[deep breath]

But seriously, what do you think of the idea? Using technology to improve humans.

I skimmed it. But it doesn't say anything about like...making us all into cyborgs or anything like that. What the hell does "improving life with technology" mean? Discovering a cure for cancer is just...duh, who wouldn't want that? That's what medical science is for.

Seriously, I'm the wrong guy to ask about -isms. They're all bogus in some way.

I don't care what people want to do with themselves, so long as it's a choice and not something forced upon someone. [not that i'm like. bitter about this kind of thing or anything.]

...

[long pause]

...

Actually...

...

That... is an interesting point. The problem is choice, isn't it. Always that.

Then why not make it stronger? Better? Faster? What if you never had to get sick again, or never had to fear death save by disaster?

Nothing. I am fine. You can even ask Soundwave, if you are so concerned.

Good. One minor glitch is hardly reason for him to be concerned, and you out of everyone would know if anything were wrong with me. Or at least, if I were acting differently.

[Shut up, you're attractive. Now let me wear your shades.]

[okay well, both his seconds are crazy people. Might as well accept it]

... right then.

I... there's something we should discuss. Well, rather, I think we've discussed it before? ... bah, well, I can tell you the plan again!
