I am relieved -- as I am sure many of you are -- that the strange bout of avarice amongst many of you appears to be over and done with. I am more grateful that, despite the chaos, it appears most of you are all right ( Read more... )

You're one of the aliens? Where are you from? What's it like there anyway? How far away is it?

[... Ahem...]

Lean-toos are pretty easy to make. Though... Don't you have a building to stay in?

THAT IS ADORABLE hope_damnit November 9 2009, 22:47:38 UTC
Lean-toos?

I do. However, it is not my home. I'm more or less sharing it with the two Green Lanterns that occupy this city.

I would much rather not be a burden.

Like a little kid. OMG ALIENS THIS IS SO AWESOME mortedidio November 9 2009, 22:50:09 UTC
Yes, it's... You take thick branches and find a sturdy tree, lean those against the tree so that you have enough room to hide under them, and then make sure that you have something to cover those branches with to keep the water from coming in. That's why it's a good idea to have a tarp on you when you go out wandering.

So you're just out looking for your own place, huh?

Well, they can't mind that much, can they?

ALIENS. EVERYWHERE. hope_damnit November 9 2009, 22:54:12 UTC
This will be useful to know if I am ever wandering and lost. Thank you.

I am, but also for others, if that makes any sense to you. I do not think Guy or Kyle mind much, but I cannot stay with them forever, either. I owe them much already.

What kind of, uh... 'earth culture' you wanna know about?

I suppose it would be much to say "all of it"; that is quite a bit of information, after all.

I would like to understand the basics, then. Of modern life here in this country in particular, so I understand how people act the way they do, or the references that they make.

Perhaps the laws as well. I am not always so certain what is within my rights to act.

The laws around here are pretty basic, I think... common sense kinda stuff. At least, that's what I'm guessing, I'm not a lawman. Stealing, killing... obviously don't do that.

Of course. I would never fathom to.

What are you doing?

I notice that many of the people here -- ported or otherwise -- do not always have a home.

I do not want a shelter for just myself. That would be selfish. I would like, instead, to make a home for those who are temporarily homeless. A place to stay without concern of payment.

So. You want to build a homeless shelter?

hope_damnit November 9 2009, 22:54:32 UTC
That is a good way to describe it, yes.

Avarice isn't quite the right word for it.

It felt oddly appropriate.

Desire, then?

meowminx November 9 2009, 22:53:19 UTC
That's the one.

They are similar, but I see where they are not completely alike. Desire does not always coincide with greed, after all.

Do you know the cause of it?

My family--such as it is--in the City. There are no blood relations whatsoever between us, but in being here I feel I have been permitted a very rare and precious opportunity to participate in the lives of those I am bound to protect.

If a Jedi must know love, he must love with an open heart, without jealousy or fear. This is not easy for any being with emotions, but it is infinitely rewarding.

Thank you for your kind words to Edgeworth.

I believe one of the wisest phrases I have found has been... "friends are the family that you choose". Blood relations are not always so concrete in family bonds, after all.

I am glad you have your family here, at any rate.

What is a Jedi, if you don't mind my asking?

[private]

Of course. I believe he has been one of the few that has suffered more than any of us at this moment. Certainly more than me.

It is indeed a very wise phrase. True, there are many who are lucky enough to have friendships with their blood relatives, but family is an elusive thing.

What about you, if one might venture to ask?

Jedi Knights are, or were, the guardians of peace and justice in my home world. A Jedi's duty is to alleviate or prevent suffering, to find and share knowledge, and to strive for the furtherance of truth. (And somehow, these ideas have made themselves into earth culture, despite the fact that we exist in different realities.)

He did, and I regret that I could not see it, or help avert the crisis. He is a friend, and knowing that someone values his hope is very encouraging. Again, thank you.

What I am thankful for?

Your Jedis sound similar to the Green or Blue Lanterns of my universe. Although the Green Lanterns are more of a police force, the Blue provide guidance and healing.

You will do what you can, even if you could not in the past. You are welcome. If I may be able to help, please inform me.
