Let it never be said that when it comes down to the wire, the people of the City don't know a good deal when they see it. On behalf of myself and Mr. Worthington, I would like to thank you all for making the Charity Date Auction such an immense success. Thanks to your contributions, we have raised $12,987,724.22 which will be put toward the construction and operation of the Ryan Center for Genetic Therapy Research.
Now, before I proceed to what you have all been waiting for, I would like to say a word in light of the controversy this auction has stirred over the past days. By winning a bid in this auction, you have won the opportunity to spend some time with the individual of your choosing. Nothing more, nothing less.
For individuals who have been "won," you, of course, have the right to refuse to participate. We would hope that you will not decline due to simply personal distaste as we will be required to return the money bid on you to the bidder in this case. But we do not wish to place anyone into a situation which they would not feel comfortable with. If you find yourself in this position, please contact my offices or Mr. Worthington's.
