Dr. Mcninja here. Okay, so I've examined the body of the kid found with the button eyes, and in my professional medical opinion something seriously messed up is going on here.
This kid's physical condition is perfect- no injuries, no signs of poison, no infections, toxicology screen negative, not even a runny nose. The only thing wrong with him- physically, at least- is that his eyes are missing and there's black buttons sewn onto his eyelids. I don't mean they were cut out or torn out, they're just gone, including the nerves. No damage to the ocular cavity either. Oh, and he's smiling. As if this wasn't creepy enough already. Adrenaline levels indicate he wasn't in fear when he died.
All-in-all, the medical evidence points to this not being an ordinary murder, but something supernatural. My best guess would be that we're dealing with a vengeful spirit whose death probably involved eye trauma. Maybe it went after kids in life, or maybe it's a kid itself, re-enacting its own death. I have a pretty good idea why it would pick now to start attacking, too. We should check to see if Godzilla disturbed the graves of anyone whose death was violent and eye-related.
Oh, and all the kids? Going around alone should pretty much be a no-no until this gets taken care of. I'll keep investigating.
