HIking Logs: Tuck Lake (with a nod at Robin); Excelsior to High Divide

Jul 20, 2014 22:35

Project "Condition for my next 100-mile hike" continues. I wanted to do two two-fer weekends in a row, but both of these hikes left me completely blasted. Next weekend, I'm doing a 26 mile/2 day backpack, so it'll be my first two-fer in quite a while. (Through heavy bear country, too. Woo.)

Last weekend, I set off to do Tuck and Robin )

I howled my way through your writeups; thanks for posting! Whew. I'm sort of glad I wasn't there, but I'm also glad you had fun. [grin] Nothing in Scotland can defeat you!

I think you would have hated the rainy hike almost as much as you hate running. :D Maybe, possibly, more.

Glad to see hiking logs! Makes me want to write up some small wanderings I've done, and do more challenging bits for more impressive writeups.

I'm going to try to get regular with writing them up again. I'm kind of pondering if I should make an actual hiking blog over at Wordpress or something. I mean, keep posting them here, but have an actual dedicated site. Hiking and traveling are the only things I truly have an interest in blogging about, at least publicly.

You should write up your wanderings!

Cascade tough! Wow!

All my long hikes this summer have been day hikes on decent maintained trails...or simple cross country.

Yes, I decided that Cascade stars are different than Rockies stars, or Sierra stars. It's just too hard to geographically compare those areas. We'll have to see what Scottish Highland stars are like.

Yep. Interesting to see which trailbuilding styles prevail around the country. Southern Appalachians/Rockies/Sierra are generally the most moderately built, Coastal California tends towards steeper (but mostly consistent grades), and then there is New England and the Cascades. Even unbuilt use trails follow the general local standards!

It has been a long time since the hiking I did in Scotland, but I remember Ben Nevis as steep but consistent(unreliable memory?)
