This week Caltrans (the transportation authority for the state of California) announced the reopening of a landslide-damage stretch of Highway 1 on the remote Central Coast. A massive landslide occured this past Saturday on California's iconic Pacific Coast Highway. Debris in an area 0.5km wide swept down across the road and into the ocean. Example coverage: CNN.com article, May 24.
