Trivia: The easternmost point--by longitude--in the US is actually in Alaska!! Some of the Aleutian islands go past 180 degrees west.

Also, not only is Puerto Rico further east than anything on the continent, but the US Virgin Islands are even further east. (And that isn't counting the US Pacific possessions that are past 180 degrees west.)

Good catch on the Virgin Islands. I've been to both PR and USVI, but PR was what came to mind when I wrote this blog. A quick web search turns up that Point Udall on St. Croix is the easternmost point of the US (not counting the so-far-west-they're-east MAXINT wraparounds you noted) and has a sundial monument marking that fact. I've been to St. Thomas and St. John, including all the way to the eastern tip of St. John, which is just slightly less east than Point Udall. The eastern tip of St. John, which I've been to, is slightly less east than Point Udall on St. Croix, which I have not been to.
