Today for lunch I did something I haven't done for literally 31 days now. I ate restaurant food! 😱
I didn't even go someplace fancy. I had an itch for a big, messy hamburger. So for my first shot in a month at eating out I went to Carl's Jr., a burger chain, and bought a double western bacon cheeseburger. I used the drive-thru to minimize exposure to other people and environments. I brought my meal home to eat it. It was... adequate.
On the whole I've been impressed at
how easily I've switched from eating out most of the time for lunch/dinner to eating home. I wrote about it three weeks ago; now that it's been a whole month I'm doubly impressed. I ate ninety-two meals in a row at home. That's an astonishing streak as I'm not sure when's the last time I ate even five meals in a row at home. Fifteen years ago, maybe? When stuck in a snowstorm?
Today's drive-thru burger doesn't signal an end to the trend of eating at home. I expect it's just an exception: a scratching of a small itch, a validation that restaurant food still is an option, and a reminder of what I am- or am not- missing.
For dinner tonight I'm back on the home-cooking wagon. I made pasta marinara with sweet Italian sausage.
