Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe

Sand Harbor, NV - Sat, 8 Jun 2019, 12:15pm

When we visited Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park at Sand Harbor today we didn't just visit the vistor center (previous blog). We hiked the trails, of course!

The park is nominally a beach. I'm sure it's lovely in warmer weather- though not so much today with temperatures presently around 50 (10° C) and a whipping wind. Still, some hardy souls braved the conditions to enjoy the sand and the sun.

There were more than just these two. At this beach there were approximately 10 people using the beach. All I can figure is they're tourists from somewhere landlocked and cold.

There are actually a few beach areas at this park. One around the corner from the one above is shared with a small boat launch. The water is shallow there, and thanks to Tahoe's famous clarity it's easy to see rocks well underwater.

With the sun in the south as we hiked, views to the north like the one above show the clarity of Tahoe's crystal-blue water best. Yet views across to the west show its sapphire blue expanse- plus a bit of its crystal clarity.

This has been a fairly easy day so far yet we've seen so much already. And we're still within 5 miles of our condo!

Next: We drive over the Tahoe rim to the east and down the mountains to Carson City, Nevada.
