We left for
our weekend trip to Lake Tahoe at 6:50pm Friday. We got no further than Fremont, about 15 miles away, when we decided to stop for dinner. At dinner I thought of one thing I forgot this trip. I've written before that every trip there's one thing. This one's not as big as
Hawk forgetting her prescription medicines but it required a workaround nonetheless. I forgot my swim trunks.
Going home to get them would cost 45 minutes there and back, I reasoned. Certainly there was a way to get swim trunks faster than that. We drive past plenty of stores as we make our way out of the Bay Area and then past Sacramento. We picked a Kohl's department store right off the highway. Once inside... they had a better selection of men's clothes than I've seen at any other Kohl's before, probably a better selection than I've seen anywhere in brick-and-mortar land before, so I browsed around for a while and end up buying a few summer shirts to go along with my new swim trunks.
The unplanned shopping detour cost us a bit of extra time. The drive itself was estimated at 4.5 hours to cover approximately 235 miles. With stops for dinner, shopping, snacks, and gas I made it in 5.5 hours. I picked up a lot of time the last 170 miles by speeding the whole way with no stops while Hawk slept soundly in the passenger seat. We arrived in our free weekend condo in Incline Village, NV, at 12:20 Saturday morning.
