I Met My Ring-Twin!

IAD airport car rental - Wed, 24 Apr 2019, 9am

A crazy thing happened at the Budget Car Rental depot where I was dropping off one car and picking up another this morning. From across the customer service counter I noticed that the agent helping me wears the same ring.

"I like your wedding ring," I said to the fellow as I stretched my hand on the counter.

"Oh, this gold ring-" he started until he saw my hand.

I never thought I'd see another like mine because this ring Hawk and I bought last summer in Lake Tahoe is produced on a small scale by an individual artisan there.

The other fellow was interested to hear the background. His ring was a gift from a friend who declined to tell him anything about it. His biggest concern was, "I hope they didn't spend too much on it."

Thanks, pal, this is my wedding ring, I thought silently. Though we didn't choose it flaunt wealth; we chose it because we both liked the style. And the relative uniqueness.

It's worth noting that our rings are not identical. Though the wood in the middle is the same, we've got different metals. Mine's cobalt, which has a light, silvery color. His is clearly a darker metal. Still, I didn't expect to see anothing ring from the same jeweller in the wild, especially 2,500 miles away!
