Crystal Lake

After a hike up from Lake George that was breath-taking- literally and figuratively- we arrived at Crystal Lake high up in the Mammoth Crest.
Crystal Lake sits at elev. 9,600' in the Mammoth Lakes region of California
We explored around the edge of the lake for a bit before settling on a lunch spot halfway around the left side, beneath Crystal Crag. As we nibbled on protein bars and fresh fruit we drank in stellar views like this:

Next up: we climb back over the flank of the ridge and descend down to the trailhead. Then, on to Mono Lake. That's right, we're going to do a two-fer today! Having the time to do so is just one of the benefits of staying overnight close to the action.
