Coming Down from a Granite High

Saturday, 10 Jun 2017, 10pm.

After a very satisfying granite country hike at Bassi Falls we rolled from the trailhead around 5pm and started heading back toward civilization. We were both hungry, so getting dinner was our first priority. Thankfully for our stomachs, working our way back down to US-50 was faster than we expected, and from there it was not long before we reached the small town of Pollock Pines. With a quick online search we selected the Burger Barn restaurant. The food there was basic but ridiculously good. Part of that was taste amplification, I'm sure.

During dinner we discussed whether to stay over another night in the area or head home. An hour or two earlier, Hawk had been strongly in favor of staying over. But as we wound down from the day's activities we both found that we were tired, stiff, and satisfied. Plus, hotel availability in the area was tight and expensive. We chose to make the 3 hour drive home. Sleeping in our own bed tonight and having nothing particular on the agenda for tomorrow will feel great.

great outdoors, dining out, road trip!, crystal basin, food, bassi falls
