Saturday afternoon we wrapped up our hike at Bear Gulch in Pinnacles National Park (see
previous blog) and pointed our car toward home. It wasn't quite 4pm when we left, so the weather was still beautiful. Even better than the morning forecast had called for, in fact. It had warmed up to just over 70F (21C) and the warmth- and clear skies- lingered through the late afternoon.
We imagined we might stop for dinner in Hollister, roughly halfway home, around 5pm. It was a bit early but made sense for us since our only lunch had been snacks on the trail. Except then as we were looking up restaurants in Hollister, Hawk spotted a few antique shops in nearby San Juan Bautista she wanted to visit. It's odd, it seems the version of Yelp she downloaded shows her store that sell beads regardless of whether she types in search terms like "restaurants". 😉
My stomach was starting to rumble but I figured I could hold off for at least another 30 minutes. It's not exactly like the wolf is at my door.
