Kauai Travelog #5
Friday, 23 Dec 2016, 3pm. Lihue, Hawaii.
Today is our first full day in Kauai, and I've spent it... working! ...Well, only a half day working. I spent a few hours in the morning catching up on mail and updating cases. From lunch time on the day is genuine vacation.
After lunch we put together a plan for the rest of the day today as well as tomorrow and Sunday. Today we visited a few drive-to waterfalls nearby our rental in Kapaa. Up next is something I'm really excited about: a helicopter tour around the island!
If you'd asked me up until about two hours ago I wouldn't have told you I was expecting to go on a helicopter tour. They're expensive, and Hawk worries they'd trigger her vertigo. But we were inspired when one of our neighbors we shared the communal hot tub last night raved about it. And when we talked to the activities concierge today, she reassured Hawk that other people with vertigo find helicopters not troublesome. So up, up, and away we go!
I'll catch up on pictures from the falls later. With past trips it's prepping the pictures that's gotten me really behind. This trip I'll try to push out my writing same-day and catch up on the pictures as I have time. For all I know that could be well into January. Update 12/28:
Falls pictures.
For now I'll share one picture.
Guess which half of the day this is, work or play?
That's right, this is the work half! This is the kind of view I enjoyed from out on the balcony while I spent a few hours catching up on work today. As I've noted before, the flexibility to work from home is really the flexibility to work from anyhwere. I'm glad my job affords that kind of flexilbility. Now I just have to figure out how to work from places like this more often than just a few days a year.
