...Iowa is a place on Earth, isn't it?

You got it.

When in Earth's history did you come from, out of curiosity?

Stardate was 2258.50 when I got here.

How strange. The Earthlings I am familiar with used a different calendar. But you had ventured out into space?

First Contact was made in April 2061. Yeah, we're in space.

That explains a great deal, actually. Your Earth is different from the one my friends come from. How were you able to get into space?

We were exploring space back in the 1960s. Eventually the Vulcans and Earth made First Contact, then the United Federation of Planets started up.

I'm not a stranger to alternate timelines.

There seem to be quite a number of Earthlings here, but none I've seen who have been so far ahead as you.

From what I've learned, several missions into space were made by Earthlings from the 1960s onward, but further scientific development was hampered by a nuclear war. We came in contact with then after that war, and we guided their technology in order to have assistance in discovering a planet worthy of colonization. Have the Eldarians made contact with you in your timeline?

Not familiar with the Eldarians. Basically what you did was what the Vulcans did. Nuclear war happened with us as well.

You have a Federation?

But if you came from Iowa in that time period, I take the radiation was manageable enough to survive on the surface.

Not at present. Eldar has mostly worked on its own, Earth has recently formed the Space Reconnaissance Force (which some Eldarians are a part of), and we have come in contact with a vastly advanced race called the Morphus, who have been monitoring the universe in secret.

Well, it didn't go really far. Pretty much when the aliens showed up, the people of the time dropped the war. They also got rid of money and Earth acts as a unified body for the Federation now.

Sort of like it then. United Federation of Planets started off with about four or so species teaming up.

I see. I am glad to hear that the war was ended early. Earth has been nothing but helpful to us in my timeline, and I wish them well. Money is starting to become more streamlined now, and the currency of Fol is popular.

I seem to have come here from an earlier time than my other comrades here, so perhaps something like your Federation is not far off in our future.

This place just loves punching the timestreams.

Well... that depends. How early do you consider "the war ended early"?

It certainly does. It's very peculiar.

Assuming you were able to live comfortably in Iowa, that means that your nuclear war did not escalate to World War III, or the damage was not enough to drive the people of Earth underground.

World War III ended in 2053.
