I'll celebrate when more people adopt their pets from reputable rescues and stop purchasing them from pet stores and breeders.

You two should celebrate then. I heard on the radio yesterday that some survey was done by a magazine or something (I am so vague) and over four times as many people said they would choose to get their pet from a rescue group rather than a store or a breeder. :) 4:1, man!

That sounds great. But when the time comes to actually add a new pet, do they go through rescue or have they changed their minds by then and purchased a pet? I'm not trying to be negative but so many people I know say that they'll adopt from a rescue then when they can't have the exact animal they want (breed and temperment which may not be the best match for their family situation which the rescue points out), they go to a breeder or pet store because all they have to do is fork over the money to get whatever they want.

Which is bullshit, because you can't predict a puppy mill puppy's temperament in advance. Much better to have a rescue already get that thought out for you before you have your heart broken. =/
