here Thanksgiving. Late afternoon. Bruce always wants to triple patrols on holidays. After this afternoon, I'm almost ready to agree with him. Sir Talks-a-Lot didn't end up hurting anyone, but if tabula rasa means letting psychos run around with swords, this place needs vigilantes more than Gotham.
This whole dual-identity shtick works a lot better when there are half a million people, not half a thousand though. Even without the comic books and movies and popular culture Tim keeps harping on, if you see the same four hundred people over and over and they see you, random acts of bravery and leadership tend to stack up. They get noticed. People wonder. Then they meet Nightwing and wonder a lot more.
Maybe Bruce could pull it off, Brucie ignoring things happening around him, but I can't. I don't think he could either. The mission comes before the secret if we have to choose. He'd just find ways not to. By not being social, probably. But I can't do that either. I'd die. Blockbuster knew that...everyone knows that.
No answers...just more questions. Batdom wasn't built in a day. Bruce had more time to think about it than I do. But I have to admit, as much as I hate having to start over...I love starting over. New place. New challenges. New teammates and old ones. Making something out of nothing. It's what I'm best at.
...just wish he was here to see it.
After giving his report at the IPD headquarters, Dick heads back toward the compound. There are probably more than a few people who want to talk to him and there are a few he needs to talk to. His team: Monet and Roy. Not much to say there except praise to Monet for following his lead and appreciation to Roy for backing him up. McGee's been giving him speculative looks all day, and Polly...she probably needs reinforcement since he yelled at her.
Part of him would love to retreat to the treehouse, curl up with Tim and talk this all out, but a good leader listens and it's probably more important than ever that he make himself available.
[Separate threads for Tim, Polly, and Vimes. Tim can catch him on the way out of the IPD station or back at the compound. Polly and Vimes can catch him in the kitchen. He'll be sitting casually with his ankle over his knee and drinking coffee and flirting with the entire kitchen, if you need that for the tag.]
