Lana had started to gather her things as her stay at the hospital was officially over and it was time for her to go home. Ironically this was around the notorious party time of the year but Lana really couldn't care about partying at the moment. She didn't have that much at the hospital just a few clothes and mysterious flowers that popped up every ( Read more... )

He stood there with his hands in his pockets and that grin on his face then gave a little shrug, not sure of his welcome after the talk they'd had just before the meteor shower.

"Well I thought if nothing else maybe I could give you a ride home."

Lana couldn't resist Clark's smile, it had a way of compelling her to smile back at him no matter what the situation was. Unless of course he completely changes and it's somewhat a smile inside of a smirk then she could hold back. Grabbing a hold of her cane, she walked forward.

"Well I thought about walking to the Talon.." She said sarcastically, "but a ride home with you would be great."

She wrapped her bag around her arm before motioning over to a vase full of flowers.

"Would you mind carrying those for me?" She asked innocently before continuing to walk forward. "Whoever sent them didn't leave a card, which I guess I could of been out of it when they delivered them so it's anyones guess as to who gave them to me."

Clark loved when she smiled, and the fact that she smiled when he did never failed to make his breath catch a little.

He picked up the flowers and thought about offering to take her bag but Lana tended to want to do things for herself so he settled for walking close enough to help if she needed it.

"You are stubborn enough you would walk there if you had to. That's why I thought I'd give you a ride." Never mind he'd totally stalked the nurses desk to see when she was getting out.

"I thought Iris' were your favorite?" Then he realized he'd given himself away. "I mean..you do like them don't you?"

She felt him hover behind her as they walked out of the room, it was obvious what he was doing and it really didn't bother Lana all that much. It was nice knowing that someone was looking after her every once and a while.

It was also nice knowing that they both could talk to each other like they did before even though in the back of Lana's mind she had several things she wanted to ask him. Then Halfway smiling at the Clark as he eventually gave himself away.

"-Clark, you're pretty much the only one that knows Iris' are my favorite. Thank you, it was nice to see something familiar in a not so pleasant place. " She said while waving her hand at the nurses as she passed by their desk. Lana couldn't help but notice the stares all three nurses were giving Clark. "What's that about?"

Lana continued to dodge the subject as she was sure Clark was doing the same. It seemed to be an unspoken rule between the two to dodge any sort of connection they may or may not have built.

Chloe was ten steps ahead of Clark. She had spent most of the day scavenging through different stores for New Year's party favors. The noise makers, confetti, streamers, and other odds and ends had been in short supply, but Chloe was determined to ring in the New Year properly with her two best friends.

She arrived just a few minutes after Clark and pouted a little that she didn't have time to set things up first.

"Leave it to you to be on time the one time I got held up at the store. Okay, give me ten minutes and this place will be so rocking that we'll be expecting Dick Clark to show up."

"Hey Chloe." He spied the decorations and laughed. "Ok, you must have cleaned out every store that's open, or you took a quick trip to Metropolis while we weren't looking." Not that Metropolis would have been far considering their little side trip to the arctic.

"Hey Chloe, I'm glad you came.." She said with a smile on her face which was truly sincere. Whatever Clark and Lana had to discuss could wait as it was good for her to just have her friends with her at the moment.

"Well I guess it isn't the New Years without decoration." She stated while watching Chloe go. She quickly handed the plates over to Clark as he along with Chloe were a big help.

"So did you happen to bring any games? Clark brought a deck of cards so that should keep us busy for a bit."

Chloe beamed a smile at both of them. Once a upon a time it would have made her heart hurt to see their obvious affection for each other, but she was a different Chloe now. Despite what her soundtrack said to the contrary, Chloe Sullivan was A-okay with being just their best friend.

"Yahtzee and Monopoly. Cards are good too though. Monopoly tends to go on and on, and well let's face it, Clark is a total cheater so we can't let him be banker anyway."

She busied herself with hanging up decorations while she talked. "Hey, Clark, how about using your height advantage for the streamers."

That was tempting as hell.

"What do you think Lana? Want to see the Lionel get his just desserts for once?" He noticed she was withdrawing and he smiled trying to bring her back out.
