[For Rupert of Hentzau] Never bring a gun to a swordfight?

Reese has crossed paths with one or two medieval (or at least pre-industrial) types, and the thought has crossed his mind, sooner or later, he's likely to get into a scuffle with one. Human nature, plus he has a knack for getting into fights -- and ending them. It just doesn't seem fair to be more heavily armed than his opponent: a gun at a ( Read more... )

Seeking amusement (as ever) and spoiling for a fight (also as ever), Rupert is strolling outside when he spots this awkward display and stops to watch. Posture cocky and lazy, he observes for a few moments before bursting into laughter at Reese's complete ignorance of basic form and technique ( ... )

He's impressed with the younger man's form -- no, no, not *that* one, his sword form. "Knew I was doing something wrong," Reese remarks, smirking, amused: he's hard to offend himself, as long as people aren't dissing military veterans or hurting defenseless people. "Not in the habit of running away, though: fight starts to go south, I start improvising.

"You look like you have a way with these overgrown skewers," Reese adds, glancing to the practice sword in his hand. "Wonder if you'd care to let me in on your secrets?"

"There's no secret to talent and training," Rupert replies, tucking his sword away again. He considers the request suggested at in Reese's reply. Well, he's not bad-looking, is he? Could make for some nice variety in Rupert's current array of romantic targets. Maybe he'd even have some skill with the use of other kinds of swords. "I might be willing to help you with the latter, if I had any reason to think that the time spent would be to my advantage."

He's juuust on the cusp of being old enough to be Rupert's father, but he's vigorous, healthy-looking in a vulpine manner. Maybe a bit squinty-eyed, but there's a humorous glint in those eyes and his lean, chiseled face is handsome. "Well, perhaps you'd be willing to help a former military man feel less awkward if and he finds he's brought a gun to a swordfight and he'd rather give the other guy a fighting chance. Never did like being better armed than my opponent."
