It's another night of fruitless patrolling. The graveyard, the preserve, the park and the graveyard again.
Yes, Mel might be a little more relentless about her patrols since coming back from her little "trip home" but it keeps her busy.
Heck the only reason why she isn't going through the preserve again is so that she can stop the endless complaining from her traveling companion.
"See? We're back home," Mel said opening the door to the lobby. "Was that so bad?"
"It wasn't anything," Zuko pointed out, not sure why they kept doing this.
"Well there could have been something," Mel grumbled. "Why do I have to keep explaining this to you?"
"Because there never is anything and when something does invade, it's never sneaky and hiding in the graveyard," he replied. The dinosaurs had been pretty obvious after all.
That earned Zuko and glare and a growl. "Did you ever thing the reason why nothing is sneaky is because I constantly patrol?" Mel countered as she started stomping up the stairs.
Zuko stomped right after her. "Why? How many have you actually encountered?"
"Hey! It's a preventive measures!" Mel scowled. "Doesn't your mighty flamer nation do recon or do you just stand around and make campfires!"
"Fire Nation," Zuko corrected and he let the rest of the question pass him by, scowling at the remark.
"You didn't answer my question," Mel countered in a snarky fashion.
"I'm a prince, I don't go on recon," Zuko snapped.
"You're a student here," Mel snapped back. "Get over your damn self."
"I'm not here to study," he growled, glaring at Mel and quickening his pace to move past her.
"All right then your royalness," Mel said grabbing for Zuko's arm to try and spin him around to face her. "Then why are you still here? You could have gone home for the summer. You don't have to stay in Fandom. You can go anywhere. Why stick around?"
His look darkened and he roughly pulled his arm free. "Because not even my Uncle wants me there," he spat.
Mel blinked at that in shock. "What? Why?"
"It doesn't matter," he turned away, regretting that he already said as much.
Mel reached out to stop him. "Wait. You don't just drop something like that on me and expect me to walk away from it, do you?"
"I said it doesn't matter," he replied, but his tone was a less terse this time.
Mel opened her mouth to say something but quickly stopped herself.
"Would it help to know there's at least one person at this school who likes having you here?"
Then she let out an embarrassed cough. "I'm not saying it's me. Could be anyone really. I'm sure there's someone here who likes you."
He almost looked pouty at that. "Maybe," he admitted, not quite looking at her.
"Someone's going to bite that bottom lip if you stick it out any farther," Mel teased.
He raised an eyebrow. "Are you volunteering?"
Mel decided to answer that with a small smirk.
Before pushing him up against the wall and giving him a savage kiss.
Not seeing a reason to protest as it might include having to talk and maybe he kind of liked this anyway, Zuko moved his hands to her shoulders and eagerly kissed her back.
And not to say that Mel wasn't into the kiss, but she was also thinking about how this might be progressing. While she didn't give a rat's ass about the Anti-PDA decree, she didn't want to go any further in the hallway and going back to the room might result in another visit by Umbridge
So when she spied the door to the broom closet she ripped it open and attempted to drag Zuko inside. "Quick. In here," she said in between kisses.
He still wasn't going to protest. Much. Maybe when she stopped kissing him. Maybe when he stopped kissing her. Which might happen right after the next kiss. Or maybe the one after that. Or... His hand slid into her hair as the other played with the collar of her shirt and he deepened the kiss. He'd figure out what she was doing later.
Mel kicked the door shut with her foot and leaned back against the wall. If Zuko was expecting a break between kisses anytime soon, he might be disappointed. (Though probably not) She wrapped her arms around his chest and moaned softly as she wrapped one of her legs around his thigh.
It was dark inside the closet and his foot bumped into what sounded like an empty bucket, but he didn't much pay attention to it as he shifted closer against Mel. He definitely wasn't disappointed, keeping up the kisses as his hand stroked over her shoulder and down her back until he fisted her shirt and slowly started tugging it free from her pants.
Mel slowly lifted her arms above her head to slowly help Zuko tug off her shirt and toss it on the floor. Smiling, she cupped his face and gave him a long slow kiss.
Slow kisses were good, it gave him time to be at least a bit coherent as his hands smoothed over her back, exploring her skin.
Mel moaned softly against Zuko's lips and began a trail of kisses down his neck. She let her hands trail down his chest and slipped under his shirt to touch his back
He drew in a breath, his fingers digging lightly into her shoulder and he hummed in approval, turning his head to capture her mouth in another kiss.
Her lips met his in what began to be a very passionate kiss, causing Mel to groan slightly as she began to slowly rock her hips against his.
Zuko moaned into her mouth, pressing closer against her as he was rapidly losing any forms of thought.
Mel's breathing was becoming more rapid as they began to move together more and more. Finally she lifted her head back and let out a very loud cry of "CAW!"
Caw?
Mel flapped back with her wings and hovered in the air for a moment until she had wings and fell to the ground with a loud SQUAK!
Followed by her protested very loudly in the magpie language about her rotten luck.
Zuko stared at the bird in front of him and wondered if Fandom had finally gotten to him and he'd lost the last shred of his sanity. "Mel?" he asked unsure.
Mel flapped her wings and squawked at Zuko. Of course she was Mel. How many magpie's have feathers with pink and purple highlights and seems to have the universe out to get her?
Zuko wouldn't know as all the animals in this world were rather odd Squatting down he held out a hand to the magpie - Mel. "This isn't a regular thing, is it?"
Mel gave Zuko a dirty look. She let off a series of squawks as she hopped onto his hands which would pretty much indicate that she had no idea if this was normal and she was actually more concerned about being a freaking bird at the moment.
He had no clue what any of the sounds meant and reached up to stroke a finger over her head. "Um... Let's find you some water?" he suggested, straightening up. This place made no sense at all.
Mel's wings slumped and thenshe let out a squawk that either meant "sure" or "whatever" or "Yeah. Water. That's what I need."
Taking that as a yes - and really they couldn't stay in the broom closet, Zuko carefully opened the door and stuck his head out to make sure the hall was clear. Just in case someone would notice him... sneaking out of the closet with a bird. Right. "Is there anyone we should report this too?" he asked and then, because it followed logically. "Can you fly?"
Mel shrugged as best you could with wings. Xander? Willow? Dawn? How was she supposed to communicate that.
She tried to mime it out but she quit quickly due to the frustration and was pretty sure she kooked pretty idiotic.
As for the second question, Mel hopped off Zuko's shoulder and soared down the hallway. She was just about to fly outside when she smacked right into the window pane.
She sputtered on the floor a bit and then squawked at the glass as if demanding to know where it came from and why it got in her way.
Zuko winced as Mel hit the window and hurried over, scowling down at her. "Don't do that! You know how windows work!" he chided her, kneeling down to check if she was okay.
Mel squawked again at Zuko. Of course she knows how windows work! There was no glass there a moment ago. Can't he plainly see that? And where was that water he promised her!
While he had no idea what she was saying, the impatience was obvious. Once certain she hadn't broken anything, he picked her up again. "No flying near windows," he told her, heading back down the hall towards their room. There was one sentence he never imagined telling Mel.
Mel sighed visibly as she grudgingly let herself be picked up and carried back to their room. This was going to be a long week. She could tell already.
