Today at work, we had an all hands meeting of my entire department (maybe150 to 175 people), where we got to hear inspiring words by the head of global production, Ian (my boss's boss's boss's boss), who was in town for the occasion of awarding our Excellence awards (called Star awards), to reward those workers who have somehow distinguished

First, congratulations on making yourself a highly valued employee so quickly! In these days, that's a very good thing.

The business world seems to be a zero-sum game many times to me (who has never worked in it except for very short temp jobs). You can't help or change that. And you aren't responsible for other people's feelings. All you can or should do is continue to be your pleasant, cheerful self.

"How much of this is hard work, and how much is personality?" Well, one hears that question about SCA awards a lot too...

But good news--today went just fine. Christmas party successfully navigated.
