Invites you 'round.

Ennis taps the counter again, looking absently out his window. It's stupid, and it'd be far too cold to get down here besides. The phone's staring at him almost as hard as he's staring at it, but finally he picks it up and dials the number off a slip of worn paper. It's obviously been worried over.

"Hey.. uh. This's Ennis."

Fred's shiny green cell phone vibrated off the counter before Fred realized what was making the sound and lunged for it. From his new vantage point on the kitchen floor, the man realized he really should sweep. If Mum ever somehow showed up and his place was looking like this, Fred was going to get the whipping of his life.

Right! Phone!

He flipped it open and started to grin right away. "Hey, Ennis! How're you doing?"

"I'm.. alright." He glances around the booth as if it might give him the answer he needs. No such luck. So he focuses on his bootlaces instead. "Dunno if you'd wanna.. take up that offer t'day? Come'n share the TV set."

He pauses as if the only response could be a no, waiting for rejection and the resulting end of the call. He might even get his nickel back if Fred hurried...

Fred's grin widens more, if that was even possible, as Ennis drawls, sounding awkward and a mite unhappy, at that. As if Fred would say no: Ennis was his only real friend in the town, and although he had splurged on the cell phone, he still didn't have a telly of his own. It seemed almost sacreligious to buy such an object without his pop able to enjoy pushing the buttons along with him.

"Sure!" Fred enthused, then tried to tap down his excitement a bit as he continued, "That'd be great. I actually have the late shift tomorrow at work, too, so this is right serendipitous timing. If that's the right word. When do you want me over?"

Fred stuck his tongue out at his dirty kitchen floor. Hah! You'd have to wait until another day to be cleaned.

He took a minute to regain himself when he realized that no, that hadn't been a no after all.

"Dunno if it's all that, but ya can come 'round... well, now, if ya like."

Fred didn't know too much about alcohol, having definitely not grown up with a family that invested in fancy liquors, but he and George had experimented enough with unexpected profits that, as he splashs some of the whiskey into his cup, he could recognize that it looked to be a more than decent drink. He sets the bottle on the coffee table and takes a nice sip, after smelling the whiskey briefly.

"Damn, Ennis, you have good taste in alcohol and whatnot," Fred said approvingly.

He flushes briefly, covering it with a generous swig, swishing the liquid around in his glass when he responds.

"Junior's fiance got it fer me not too far back."

"Well," Fred shrugs, grinning, "Then good taste runs in the family, huh?"

Fred likes to talk, but he's a leetle wary of pushing Ennis's own willingness to converse. Still. "So what'd you get up to today?"

Ennis doesn't mind questions, just don't expect much in the way of answers. "Oh, you know... not much. An odd job here or there." Translation: canceling some very epic travel plans.
