YES. And I mean, it hasn't always treated me perfectly, but it's rarely treated me poorly and has given so, so much. tl;dr, thanks for being there more often than not, fandom.
I love this post, and I see a lot of myself in here. From being in fandom half my life to having to getting fandom in short bursts because of having to share the computer with siblings. But especially when it comes to discovering social justice and personal queerness. I grew up in a pretty liberal, open-minded family, but there were a lot of topics - about race, class, sexuality, privilege, etc - that just didn't get touched upon and which I learned about my participating and lurking in fandom. I remember explaining to a friend I met in a social justice internship that what got me into activism was because of fandom, where it's okay to be passionate and where I learned everything.
