*ahem* I mean, this episode made me really, really happy. I was pretty sure about Nina when she fussed about the ultra-secure biometrics, but I had a niggling feeling that there was something else happening when she was so callous about the whole experimenting-on-kids thing a couple eps ago. And the fact that we never met red!Nina in the old timeline! SO fishy!
And the return of ZFT! Finally! Olivia seriously needs to start blowing some stuff up with her amazing brain!
I really liked the idea of Amber Lincoln and Olivia (though I do like Lincoln/Lincoln, too...), but I have to admit I squeed pretty loud when Peter kissed Olivia. For me, it's not as much the way he looks at her (which, yes, Joshua Jackson is nailing), as the way she looks when she knows they love each other. This whole episode, Olivia's face was just transformed. All her isolation and tension and worry just fell away. She was gorgeous. That's my favorite thing about Olivia/Peter.
*literally pauses for a moment to admire bespectacled Olivia*
Was it fishy that we never met the other Nina, though? I can't say I've ever thought twice about it. (Rather, I'm still annoyed that this is the first mention poor John Scott has gotten since mid-season one. Seriously show, SERIOUSLY. I get a different direction, but that feels like a seriously loose end.)
Olivia seriously needs to start blowing some stuff up with her amazing brain! You say the best things.
I know! Olivia held herself so differently this episode! Even with the confusion about boundaries and identity, there's such a stark contrast between this Olivia and the one from 4x01. Wow! (I'll also be quietly waving the Amber Olivia/Lincoln flag and not so quietly waving the Lee/Lee flag, which my non-fannish watching buddy makes fun of me for :P)
There's an AMAZING Amber-into-Blue-verse Olivia/Peter/Lincoln story (with awesome chemistry between Lincoln and Peter too) that I've got tabbed for recording. GAH, SO GOOD.
I have nothing really to add, except: Gush gush gush gush gush.
I am quite pleased to be able to return to the relationship between Olivia and Peter. I kinda liked that Peter's first reaction was to be hesitant and concerned about the whole thing, since he's been burned on these "too good to be true" things with Olivia before.
Overall, Peter's behaviour toward Olivia has been kind of exemplary. I loved that in Marionette, last season, Peter told Olivia that he'd been mistakenly involved with her double right off the bat and then he let her speak, let her hurt, when she broke down at the end of the episode. On most shows, he would have tried to comfort her or bring it back to him, but owning that there was nothing he could do was a great moment of writing (and acting - the look on Jackson's face was pure misery and guilt and it was great).
Basically, agreed! Although I can't say I'm surprised that Olivia was immediately kidnapped. Peter and Olivia aren't ever allowed to be uncomplicatedly happy for long!
Right, absolutely. Also, the way that episode was written, and if I recall correctly, it was about her pain, not his pain. That immediate recognition that there wasn't really anything he could do about it got that issue out there quickly, without futzing around with cheesy "make it up to her" business that other shows might do. Also: She needed the space to have it be her scene, I think.
Well, naturally! Nobody on television is allowed to have a happy relationship, and the moment things look like they might be happy, that's when you need to watch the fuck out. I try to bring this concept into gaming as much as possible, when GMing >:D
