[June 2nd] [Nanoha] Snow Rain

Schwertkreuz sparkled as Hayate nervously held it aloft, watching it sway back and forth as the snow gently fell around her. Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and called forth the barrier jacket.
Cloth gently enveloped her slender frame, staff appearing in hand where the small device had been only moments before. It felt odd to do this without Rein's help. Nervously, Hayate gripped Schwertkreuz tightly and concentrated.
A beat, two, the magic swelled within her and Hayate's eyes opened slowly. The barrier jacket held it's form and she couldn't help the giggle that escaped as she spun in place, dancing with the falling snowflakes. Within moments she was breathless and slightly dizzy, but incredibly proud of herself. With a grin, Hayate held Schwertkreuz close and summoned a magic circle. The magic swelled within her and she could feel the tendrils of energy race up her spine.
Feeling the warning signs of using too much energy too soon, Hayate willed the circle to disappear while taking a steadying breath. Within moments the barrier jacket dissolved as well and Hayate found herself staring at the small device in her hands. Memories of another snowy day filled her mind and Hayate silently thanked the girl who had sacrificed herself all those years ago.
The snow began to fall a bit harder and Hayate realized that it was starting to become quite late. The others would no doubt come to fetch her if she delayed any longer. Hayate's lips quirked as she imagined them: flustered Rein, pouting Vita, stern Signum, laughing Shamal and patient Zafira.
They had always been such good children; the one that was no longer with them and the ones that continued to watch over her.
