hm, so i liked it but it also seemed like pretty typical "wes anderson" antics. you know, all the blocking being really symmetrical...setting is symmetrical too. and the characters make really stiff, abrupt movements at lots of right angles...and there are lots of vivid colors and clean lines and...jason schwartzman's character seemed a lot like all of the other male leads in all of the other movies.... BUT i still wanna see the darjeeling ltd.
you could say the same about hitchcock and his typical suspense formula. I think the fact that wes anderson has such a precise style is one of the reasons i like him - the fact that the man is an auteur.
ic, ic. i'll give you that. BUT i also wonder if it doesn't just become gratuitous quirkiness at some point? i don't think style should supersede the story.
i know what you mean. I can only remember up to the ship being raided by the pirates in the Life Aquatic - after that it seemed to lose a lot of steam and become redundant. But I thought this was a lot more serious then what we've seen from him in the past, besides maybe the Royal Tenenbaums.
