I thought the seal-hunt issue was over long ago. From your post I get the feeling it is as healthy as ever.

I find extremism frightening. The "Damm the torpedos! Full steam ahead!" attitude. I admit I don't know much about the issue. But I do understand there is a balance in everything. Blanket solutions such as the one you suggest only encourages resentment.

The bear population is dwindling, human hunters are lessening... who's left to cull the herds? Will seal populations will do so by means of stavation and disease? Where is the humanity in that? I don't provide an answer but it seems your passion is one face of the multi-dimensions. Complex problems deserve more thoughtfulness.

Sure would be nice to save every body, every creature, the whales and the seals... just seems so far off in la-la land. Soon as you save all the seals you'll be out saving their food (fish?) from those same seals.

Unfortunately, yes. Just last year the quota was raised to kill over a million seals over three years - and that's just the quota - not counting all the seals lost in the water and left to die.

The Canadian Department of Fisheries have displayed over and over again that they are unable or unwilling to enforce quotas or humane killing methods. The International Fund For Animal Welfare have again and again provided them with photographic and film evidence of the outrageous cruelty out on the ice and they have done nothing about it. Perhaps I would fight for better laws if those laws had ever actually been enforced ( ... )

You're obviously a caring person, with great faith. I wish you luck in your cause. I don't see the point of it as you've failed to convince me of the significance or importance. You expressed the cruelty and frankly, death is always cruel.
