Who here supports the seal hunt with action (rather then words)? I mean will you be eating seal pie this year? Will you sport a seal fur purse? Or seal fur anything

Seal skin homes? Nah, not likely to be able afford that sort of thing. Big $$$
Most of the issue with the hunt comes from a handful of errors in times past, like say stuff that was done in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Modern hunting is as painfree and "humane" as any other sort of animal processing. Banning the hunt based on past practices and even a few incidents that might happen this year is as logically as banning driving completely because some people speed.
Check last year's March entries at canada kick ass, or the first entry that was made about sealhunt in this community this year, the comments. The Canadian Vet association accompanied them, and note that 98% of the time the seals died quickly, they conclude that seal hunting itself is not cruel, but since that there are cruelties, it should continue to be monitored.
Ah, if altruism is what's guiding your economic activity, might I suggest simply donating that money to the communities directly. They'd end up with more and wouldn't have to kill as many seals.
If the demand were greater, one of two things would occur. Either the price for seals would increase or more seals would be hunted.
Replacing income of sealers with donations supposedly would decrease/eliminate the hunt. Not a bad solution if it were sustainable. I suppose the same could be applied to all our problems.
This is one of the moments when I'm glad I don't have a firm opinion on the hunt. Seal meat is not on the list of foods I want to bring into my diet. I think the next food that is on that list is Swiss chard.
No, that's the opposite of what I meant. I've got a list of foods that I've never cooked with, that are healthy and locally-grown, that I'm going to try. But rather than introduce a bunch of new recipes all at once, I'm trying each new food for a few months, and fitting it into both new recipes and ones I already make. Kale has become a regular part of our diet since January - I put it in all things potato and most things pasta, in addition to one or two recipes where it's the main ingredient. Navy beans are the current experiment. Swiss chard is next. I'm open to suggestion for the fourth - but it won't be seal, because it's not local enough for my taste or healthy enough to let me overcome that objection.
I wouldn't even know where to buy seal products even if I wanted to. But I guess if I had the chance I would try seal pie. Im not a big fan of greasy or fatty meats though and i hear its an aquired taste. As for wearing fur, I don't think it would look good on me.
Newfounland is a little far for me to go for my groceries, I live in Ottawa. As for the taste.. yeah like i said, I heard its something you have to get used to.
That's a dumb argument. Do I have to buy something from everything I don't think needs to be criminalized? Do I have to start toking because I support medical marijuana?

Yes, if I can get it. I was thinking about seal skin boots, actually. Or maybe a wallet.
