I realize that the last paragraph was probably tongue-in-cheek, but I'll respond anyways.

The reason the Liberals have invited Dean to be the keynote speaker is because of his decentralized fundraising campaign that was so successful in 2004 bid for Democrat challenger.

As someone pointed out elsewhere, the Liberals invited Dean, the figurehead who was largely ignorant of the system responsible for his success, while the Greens invited Joe Trippi to their convention, the person responsible for setting up said system.

(Pardon my bias)

New approaches for political fundraising seems a very appropriate topic to cover, especially for the Liberals, who have traditionally relied on large donations from their friends in Big Business.

Joe Trippi may be the better person to explain it, but Howard Dean probably has better name recognition.

Quite a few liberals are making a similar point (though with less irony). They've flat out said 'how would we react if the Conservative Party brought a fire-breathing partisan from the Republican party to speak at their convention?'

Hard to disagree.

Now every time the Liberals criticize the Cons for cuddling up to the Americans, the Cons can point out that it is the Liberals that feel the need to include influential American politicians in their party.

True. I'm not the biggest fan of American politicians, but the criticism from the Liberals and NDP had been nothing more than childish.

We don't need to kiss their ass, but berhaps if they could come up with something a little better than "those bastards" then our relations with would not be so strained.
