Those wacky Conservatives new TV spot.

Here we have an ad from the Tory camp that is professionally directed, instead of those stiff ads theHarper did. The Air Farce had theHarper as a robot in their lampoon of those ads last night. But this new ad should suspend any Liberal plans for a negative blitz if it's as effective as I think it is.

We've all been waiting for the Liberals to go negative, but I don't think "pre-emptive counterattacks" are such a smart move on the part of the Conservatives. They should have waited for the Liberals to sling the first mudball; if this runs on TV before the Libs run a negative ad, I don't think it will do the Cons any favours.

Also, that's a somewhat complimentary photo of Martin, he looks like a news anchor doing a "hard-hitting serious news" face. I guess it's supposed to look evil and menacing, but considering Martin looks like a harried chipmunk in most photos, this one looks positively statesmanlike in comparison.

That said, it's certainly nice to see they dropped Mr. Kowalski's Grade Ten Drama Class as their media advisors and went for a bit more professional look.

Yeah, I noticed the thing about Martin too. As well, I noticed that the voice over of the ad had nothing to do with the libs running a negative campaign.

TheHarper himself directed those poorly done interview ads.

Mr. Kowalski should make little Stephen repeat the Grade Ten Drama Class.

Awwww, no honk honk? It is indeed a pretty well done ad IMO. But it is an attack ad by itself. I thought the party was going to take the 'high' road. Guess not?

Wow, that ad had much better production values than the other conservative ads, but it really just struck me as blatantly hypocritical.

Hypocritical? You mean hypothetical, don't you? The last campaign had the Grits snorting about a hidden agenda constantly. What was the worst thing the Tories said? The grits are corrupt, which is only the truth.

it's hypocritical to sling mud for 20 seconds and then make a plea for positivity

Sorry, which twenty seconds was that?

Transcibing the ad myself...
When you've been in power for twelve long years,

when your party has been named by a judicial inquiry into corruption,

when scandals continue to engulf your government,

what message can you possibly take to the people of Canada?

(Cue quote from Globe and Mail, Nov24th)

On January 23rd, let's do something positive.

Demonizing the Reform/Alliance/Conservative party has been central to the Liberals' strategy for the past fifteen years. Ontario's reluctance to vote for an "Alberta" party is the only thing the Liberals have going for them. They will not suspend negative campaigning.

Ontario? Hell, I live in BC and I don't want to vote for an "Alberta" party.

In live in Alberta and I don't want anyone to vote for a "Toronto" party.

A negative ad to condemn the Liberals for some hypothetical future negative ads? This is the dumbest one, yet.

It's not hypothetical. It's historical, time tested and proven. The Grits have bragged they were going to go negative, and they have already.

I think its a pretty good add. It simply reminds people that the liberals are a bunch of corrupt incompetant twits!

But I think how a person see's negative depends on their initial biases. I already think Martin is corrupt lying idiot of a moron, though he is charismatic and does tend to be able to hypnotize enought brainless canadians to vote for him.

One political pundit put it well, I think it was Norman Spectar (Specter?). He said something like: If PM and his team where as good at running government as they where at running a campaign we would not be having an election right now.

Charismatic? Martin? Are we talking about the same PM?
What, when, and how?! Junior's always bumbling and messing up, his messages have never been consistent, and the only thing close to charisma that he posesses is found in his immense desire and complete obsession with becoming (and now remaining as) Prime Minister.
