Theo Nott's Mother

I realize that next to nothing is known about Theo Nott's mother other than that her husband was an elderly Death Eater and that she died sometime before 1995. Even that sparse info (aside from the Death Eater bit) is due, in part, to JKR's comments rather than to what is specifically stated in the books

Basically, nothing known either way from the books -- I don't think Theo Nott even gets a line of dialogue. So either way would work, depending on what you want. He can see Thestrals, so maybe Hermione could have found out about his background if she went into it, but I doubt it would be something she had been told directly.

Thanks. I am working on a chapter where he shares the info with Hermione who says she hadn't known and offers condolences. It is an extremely minor exchange and more about character development than plot, but I don't want to include it if there is evidence in the books that Hermione certainly knew the information.

She clearly knows who he is (being much less oblivious than Harry), and she knows that his father is a Death Eater because Harry saw Nott Snr in the graveyard (or at least has deduced that was Theo's dad from the fact that he's conferring with Draco & Co after the Quibbler article comes out). Other than the two brief walk-on scenes in OotP, though, basically everything we know about Theo Nott comes from JKR's off-book mentions.
