Someone just went out of their way to inform me on FF.net that I had a canon error in one of my fics because I had Remus bitten by Fenrir Greyback on his sixth birthday. I don't think it's explicity stated in canon. I just checked my copy of POA and there Remus says "I was a very small boy when I received the bite." (chapter 18). I don't recall it being particularly mentioned anywhere else (there's one reference in HBP where Harry mentions it to Remus as "when you were a kid"), so unless there's a JKR interview somewhere that says different (there's not one I recall anyway and like you I tend to pay attention to Remus facts!) I don't know where they're getting a specific age from.

That's what I thought, too, but she seems so convinced that she's right and I'm wrong. I've asked her to send me the specific quote. It is important to me that my stories be as canon-accurate as possible, and I wouldn't want to get an important character moment like this wrong if I can help it.

She must be conflating fanon with canon. There's no specific age mentioned in any of the books or even interviews.
