Nothing particularly IN canon, but it just feels like something Barty Crouch Jr. would have been able to do when he was pretending to be Moody. If these maps existed, I would think that Crouch would suspect that Hogwarts had one, and would have used a "Nonmap" spell to protect himself. Ditto with Pettigrew.

That's a thought -- a very good point actually. I'm not too bothered about Pettigrew, because he doesn't seem to have been worried about being seen on the actual Marauders' Map (which is odd given that you'd think he must have overheard Harry and Ron talking about it at some point -- a possible Flint maybe?).

To get round it with Crouch!Moody, since we know he appeared on Harry's map, I suppose I'd have to say that this is supposed to be a Ministry secret (hence Dumbledore doesn't use one at Hogwarts) and the counter-spell is only in one obscure research volume (which would actually fit with my story), and that the Marauders figured out how to mimic it by putting the theory together on their own or something ... Hmm. :)

V. interesting idea you have here. (And pfft, I am not so Nazi-like about the questions asked here, you're still looking for canon verification. I want people to use the communtiy, after all.)

Thanks. :)

Interesting idea that I have to tailor very carefully to get it to fit, mind you (although given that JKR can throw something like Felix Felicis into the mix at such a late stage, maybe I don't need to). I like it, but it might be better to go with an alternative!
