My question is: in the Harry/Ginny 'shipper world, there's a thing about Ginny stealing socks from her brothers. I don't remember this happening in canon, but it's so widespread in the 'shipper world that I just wanted to check and be sure. Is there any mention of Ginny's sock

I personally believe this 'sock fanatic' started in the fanfic world. A while back I read a story about Ginny stealing socks for her and Harry's 'pleasure'. Later on, I came across more stories similar to the former one I had read. Quite possibly someone started a story about Ginny, Harry and socks and the rest is history.
