Harry Potter question: How to use love potions

Does anyone know how to use a love potion? I mean, I know as much as making the target consume it in either food or drink, but I don't remember there's anything in the book about how to define which person the victim will fall in love with? Should we add something into the potion, or is the person who made/slipped the potion into the drink/food ( Read more... )

From the only example I've seen, Romilda attempts to slip Harry a love potion, but Ron consumes it instead. Ron then becomes infatuated with Romilda.

From what I assume, one might have to add an essence of self to the potion, or the potion 'knows' who's brewed it. You can't specify who you want to fall in love with you, only that you're the one who gets marked.
