see in comparison i would have probably ended up in a fight with her and fired or steaming about it for months later in my mind like all things that i regret doing or not doing in life. there's just something about a jerkish idiot thinking they got the better of someone or put them in their place that just never rests with me. which is usually how i end up telling people off at the bus stop for being a brat on the bus or yelling at some poor guy trying to direct traffic :(
Dan, you're too nice-- you need to work on honing your ability to express harsh contempt for pinheads like this without crossing the line into could-get-you-fired territory. You shouldn't let people like that believe they have the right to talk to you like that.
There's no way I can get fired for talking back to her. I'm unionized, remember? (In a very cynical viewing,) the only thing the library cares about is funding, so I could maybe get fired if I did something with money, but not people. I think instaed of "The customer is always right", their motto is more like "The customer is sometimes right, but their opinions are mostly only of statistical interest."
I've had people turn into the hulk over late fees. I usually end up standing there while they yell at me, when they are finished I apologize for their late fees and tell them they should talk to my boss.
