I'm not entirely sure what happened when my friends explored that place but... your feelings about the prison are probably right. Something terrible happened.

Be careful of the buildings too. They're kind of unstable. {One of said friends was buried alive in one. That place doesn't exactly hold good memories for him, even if he'd never actually been there. The grim tone to his voice can give away that much.}
