Ebay and Auction Sniping..

Having put some items up onto ebay, I was thinking about the sniping aspect to the auctions and how most people wait until the auction gets into the last minutes and then makes their bids and hopes that no one notices before the item ends. That is how WoW has set up their internal auction system. While it stops actual sniping (if there are a lot of last min bids, it'll go back to 'hours remaining') there is instead a tendancy for people to just hover and watch and wait, in the hopes that they'll get a bid in while people are away and can't bid. Not as much of a problem in real life since if you're lifeless enough to snipe you can hover as much as you want, but it is a neat idea.

I pretty much have to snipe if I want to win anything. Only because the competition does the same thing.

I think the best way to stop sniping is to just not display the curring high bid and only notify the bidders of their outcome when the auction has ended. Make it a silent auction.
