You're doing well, good luck on your Dutch course, just don't expect too much. I have worked with a 'nieuwkomers-buro', their courses are fairly basic, their classes always full. But if you do practise everywhere, whenever you can, I'm sure you'll pick it up soon, your talent for languages must help!
Well, at home my bets practice is TV, since my husband and his friends tenf to talk to me in English (which I still appreciate bigtime!) But people in the street address me in Dutch, and if I really can't understand them, then I tell them I am foreigner and stuff, but if I can reply something in Dutch, I try to, although I sound dumb most of the time ;)
The other day a woman in the kassa asked me if I had 65 cents, and I understood if I had 5.6 guilders, gods ;) I must recall that you guys invert number heheh... The woman was looking at me like "What's she doing??" then I said, "um.. hoeveel?" and she pointed to the chasier machine, then i saw the amoung and had to explain (in dutch) that I wasn't too familiar with the amounts or coins... that was silly, but she was very gentle and kind towards me. Most dutchies rule!
That's how I manage abroad most of the time, especially at the kassa, just look at the amount, give the nearest note and end up with piles of coins after a couple of days...
heh, I tried paying with bills, but since I always get questions like "got anything smaller?", "do you have 50 cents?" "Are you sure this bill is not fake?" ;) I prefer paying the exact amount sometimes hehe... but indeed, I have lots of coins in my wallet and I hate that!
