Okay, let's do it. "No gendered pronouns" day is next Wednesday, 11th July.

Everyone taking part defines their own limits; everyone promises to post about how it's going/ how it went for them.

Poll No gendered pronouns day

Quick edit to add: here's the post for linking any write-ups of your experiences in taking part.

For the record, I would be in, but after viewing my success rate with trying to or not to say anything in the past, basically ever, I think I'm just going to choose to be conscious of when, for me, gendered pronouns come up.

Also: would you mind if I mention this in my LJ? Or do you want to keep this to a small group?

No, go for it! Actually, I'll unlock the entry so people can join in the poll, perhaps?

With the proviso that I might only speak to my bloke and some Japanese people, and gendered pronouns seem to be less important (boku and kanojo exist, but only when talking to people about other people in front of them)

Ha, we'll have you for diversity cover, and you can LJ about how it's less of a big deal when you're speaking Japanese.

...and I was busy thinking that it would be impossible to do my job without using gendered pronouns, given that it's almost impossible to speak much Spanish without them. :)

Yeah, the thought occurred to me, too - Spanish is the contrast language used in the research for early vs late "revelation" of referent gender. Oh, and I note the person living in Germany hasn't opted in either :)

Are you planning to use the singular "they" instead?

i think it's up to the participant. that's my choice, though. :D

Yep, up to whoever. I think I'll be "they"-ing, mostly.

I'm in, with the proviso that if my work requires me to work on something that splits down by gender then I'll have to for that :->

Well, we don't want anyone actually losing their job over it...

Ace idea! I'm in, and I'll mention it on my LJ. Mind, I can't promise to speak to anyone except Glitz.

I'm meeting hfnuala and majea tomorrow for some ungendered afternoon tea. I wonder how that'll go? Tell you what, if you haven't talked to anyone but Glitz by then, we'll phone you.
