Grades in Japan

You've probably heard that Japanese students get amazing grades.  It isn't true.  They don't study or do their homework a lot, and get pretty poor grades, but there is no hold-back program in Japan.  They study for the major entrance exams, and that's about it.  Granted, some subjects are easier than others ( Read more... )

XD our sensei in high school was really from japan. she said that no one really worried about grades till the exams and even then, the only time she got serious was for the high school and college entrance exams. She and all her friends gave up everything to study day and night. but as soon as they got in to college... she partied all the time... *lol* she said that if you failed a test in college, you would just pay a fee to retake it till you were satisfied with the grade. XD

That doesn't surprise me at all, actually. I've seen it myself. That's what they're pushed to do here. What's amazing is the reputation they have for being so academic for everything else.
