Of Mice and Men....uh...me...woman.

Some time ago, I posted pictures of a mouse rescue. That was in April. Since then, we've received copious amounts of rain. I can barely get up and down my driveway now. I posted pictures on Facebook. It's so wet that apparently the snakes in my 15 acres of woods have decided to head for higher ground.

So now, I'm back in the mouse catching business ( Read more... )

This post is perfect timing! We have a chipmunk problem. They are in our walls! But they come out, because we've seen them head in through the garage. We'll definitely use the cube! :-)

Glad I could help. But make sure you check out the sizes. The mice are barely longer than the length of your thumb. They can even turn around in the cube, although they can't get back out. The chipmunks I've seen are larger. I think they'd fit in the cube, but they'd be seriously stressed I think since I don't think they could turn around. Also, if you are trying to capture and release, if you don't check it often, they'd be more likely to overheat.

Good luck. Chipmunks are so cute. But not if they're doing damage. Like my mice. Sigh.

ETA: Although you can buy these online, I got mine at Walmart for less than $2 apiece.

Thanks! I shared the link with my husband and he's checking out alternatives. We don't want them to suffer. Just to find a new home. :-)

Good luck with your problem!

Thanks. Glad to know I'm not alone. :) It's hard though. I just checked the traps. Caught another one. It's a lot harder letting them go at night. You can't see as well, and because it's so wet, the mosquitoes are terrible. This one ran off so fast it didn't get tagged. So I won't know if it's becomes a frequent flier or not.

Oh well. Glad I found it now. It would have been a long night for him/her.

Have caught and released two more tonight. Total's now up to ten. Only managed to tag one.

I just looked up mice. Keep in mind, I found the first nest in April.

Gestation - 20 days
Litter size - 3-14! (avg. 6-8)
Litters per year - 5-10
And females reach maturity at 6wks. Males 8wks.

Houston. I think we have a problem.

Eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, eek, a mouse!

Good for you, Cana, for taking the humane approach. We have a catch and release program in our household for anything spider-sized or bigger. Ants get squished, however.

Yep. Ants get squished and roaches are drowned in bug spray. I'm irrational about them. Especially the big ones.

I swept out the cabinet last night. So this morning all three traps were empty but there were pieces of corn in the cabinet. So now the mice are smarter than me. And well fed. I was all prepared to drive and release today.

Ok...I'm changing the bait. One peanut only. Back in the back of the trap where they HAVE to go all the way in. Now if they're working together to hold the trap door open. Well, then I'm in serious trouble.
